Intel has recently reported its best ever quarter in company history. Intel’s shares rose more than 8 per cent to $22.74, after it reported revenues of $10.8B. The Intel Atom Netbooks and processors contributed significantly to this success, as its sales once again rose into the double digits. For 2010, Intel CEO Otellini therefore expects a lot more selling netbooks than previously thought.
According to Intel they continue to record increased sales of the Atom CPUs. In the period from April to June 2010, the number of Intel Atom sales, according to Otellini, rose by as much 16 percent. The increase is mainly due to strong demand for the new Intel Atom N550. This is the first dual-core Atom for netbooks and already has a number of hot devices lined up.
Otellini assumes that there will be approximately 40 million netbooks sold in 2010 globally. Overall, Intel expects growth in PC sales of around 20 percent. Further increase in sales will be to lead to a continued strong demand from final customers and increasing business expenditure.
