We heard about this yesterday along with the Atom N550 netbook freeze – According to Digitimes sources, Intel plans to phase out their bottom end Celeron processors in 2011 in favour of high end netbook processors which would be the Atom N550, specifically. Intel have denied these rumors however.

This makes sense – netbooks have really stagnated in regards to performance over the last couple of years and the dual core option will rejuvenate interest in netbooks (as reported by Intel) though by introducing more powerful processors there would be a merging of the netbook and low end notebook markets. It makes sense for Intel to get rid of the lower end budget Celeron notebook processors, as rumored, to give more room for higher performing netbook processors.
