ASUS CEO Jerry Shen made it clear from a talk on Monday how his company would tackle the iPad. In an interview with Polish newspaper RP Shen said that the iPad, “has inspired” ASUS and other manufacturers to offer enhanced devices with touch-screen displays, but there is still room to overcome hurdles and build products that are really attractive to the mass market. The optional, detachable keyboard with the ASUS Eee Pad EP121 one could leave behind the restrictions, which are still haunting the iPad.

ASUS makes quite clear that it hopes to compete with Apple’s iPad. Shen also mentions that the docking station functions as an optional clip-on keyboard help the customers use their Eee pad to not only consume content, but also can create.

Jerry doesn’t stop at physical form he continues to software as well. ASUS is a key partner with Google’s Chrome OS and has reportedly developed an Android tablet, although the rumor persists of Intel and Microsoft strongarming that made ASUS downplay any device that didn’t either use an Intel processor or a version of Windows.
