Logitech is the first to throw its hat in the ring with a Google TV supported Set top. Logitech’s Revue Google TV box made an appearance on the FCC today thanks to Logitech’s OEM partner, Gigabyte. We have to admit that it looks a lot like a Net top, the other thing that has us scratching out heads is that Gigabyte’s Multimedia device completely flopped here in Taiwan! I guess the technology is transferable, we’ll have to go snooping around Gigabyte later this week to see what we can find out.
In case you missed it according to Google “Google TV is a new experience made for television that combines the TV you know and love with the freedom and power of the Internet. Watch an overview video below, sign up for updates, and learn more about how to develop for Google TV.” We think it might be more successful then Apple TV since its not a closed system.
Getting back to the hardware, the device has a 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor and hardware acceleration for HD video and 3D graphics. You can’t actually see the Atom chipset since its completely covered by a heat sink right by a large fan, so we doubt that this will be quite as a mouse.
The Revue will sport 4GB of memory, which appears to be provided by eight Micron flash modules to the left of the processor. We also see what looks like Hynix SDRAM, to the right of the processor. There’s also a WiFi module and what looks like a few USB ports, an Ethernet jack, and possibly some other connections.
