In the market for an inexpensive tablet, but haven’t pulled the trigger on an Amazon Kindle Fire or the Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet? Perhaps today’s deal will push you towards a NOOK Tablet.

For today only, Barnes & Noble is selling the NOOK Tablet for $50 off through their eBay store. Using the coupon code CNOOKDEAL when you checkout, you’ll get the NOOK Tablet for $199 instead of its original $249 price, including free shipping.

Bringing it down to $199 puts it even more squarely in competition with the Kindle Fire. While the Kindle Fire has the Amazon ecosystem behind it, taking full advantage of “free” video streaming privileges requires a $79/month year (oops, my mistake, thanks to the commenter below) subscription to Amazon Prime. And the Kindle Fire does rely on streaming media most of the time, which isn’t ideal when you’re in an area without a Wi-Fi connection, like on a plane.

In contrast, the NOOK Tablet has a memory card slot to supplement the internal storage so that you can take your media with you and not worry about Wi-Fi accessibility. The NOOK Tablet also gives you in-store perks when you visit a Barnes & Noble bookstore. And you get free in-store tech support if anything goes awry.

Be quick if you’re going to go for the $50 off deal, because not only is the deal only available until midnight today, there are also limited quantities available.
