We’ve barely got Android 4.0 out the door and now we’ve got launch date rumors on when the next generation of Android, 5.0 or ‘Jelly Bean’ will be launched.  The rumor does come from Digitimes which isn’t the most reliable news source in town but the logic does make sense even if it will piss off hardware manufacturers who are struggling to get Android 4.0 on their devices.

Microsoft will be launching Windows 8 in the third quarter of 2012 so Google is likely to launch Android 5.0 in the second quarter to get ready to go head to head with Windows 8 tablets.  According to the Taiwanese source:

Android 5.0 will be further optimized for tablet PCs, while Google will also integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs. Brand vendors can either choose to adopt only Android 5.0 or add Android 5.0 to Windows 8 devices with the ability to switch between the two OSes without the need to shut down the computer.

Like we said, we’d take it with a grain of salt, Q2 seems a little too soon since Android 4.0 is barely out the door. Then again you can announce when ever you want, the important part is delivery.

Let’s hope this version will be less prone to bugs!

Android 5.0 and Windows 8 on the very same device sounds like wishful thinking though. Vendors will be asked to make a choice.
