A well respected Russian Mobile Journalist Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-Review.com. The way this rumor is playing out, Ginger Bread would be for high-end, powerful devices, and Froyo would continue to ship on smaller, slower models. If these tidbits of information are true, we can also see Ginger Bread as the flagship Android OS for tablets.
Take this gossip for what its worth, it does fall into line with what we have been hearing about future releases, so here are the major points that are discussed by Murtazin.
- Android hardware will keep getting bigger and better, and Android 3.0 will be tailored for the largest, most powerful devices. Screen sizes will be 3.5 inches and larger, and the OS will require a minimum of 1GHz and 512MB of RAM. This rumor correlates with current trends Android hardware, devices such as the Incredible , the EVO and the Droid X show that Android phones are getting progressively bigger, better and faster. These are the types of devices that would be sporting Ginger Bread OSes in the future.
- A new 1280 × 760 resolution will be available for devices (such as the Droid and EVO X) with displays of 4 “and larger.
- The user interface is getting a complete overhaul, with the final product being Comparable to the Gallery App on Nexus One. Animations will be light and smooth.
- Ginger Bread will be released in mid-October (around 15-16th), 2010. The first Ginger Bread-running handsets would start shipping during the holiday season.
If this holds true then fall is when we might see Marketplace open up!
