Insider information apparently leaked out around the number of iPad’s sold in South Korea in 2011 totals 1 Million units sold.  In late November 2010 held a whopping 700,000 iPads shipped leaving the remaining 300,000 to have been sold in two and a half months’ time.  These numbers come from the Korea Herald and will likely remain unconfirmed by Apple.

About two thirds of the iPads were Wi-Fi versions, implying that carriers’ offers to subsidize the 3G version weren’t having a disproportionate effect in the country versus elsewhere. Lower prices and adequate reach for Wi-Fi have typically made it the most popular choice.

Apple is believed to have between 70 to 80 percent of the tablet market in Korea despite it being the home for two of the largest Android tablet supporters, LG and Samsung.

When looking at the tablet ecosystem over the next 6 months, rumors of an iPad 3 launch in March keep popping up if true Samsung won’t have a competitor until they release their new tablet CPU in the spring. We’ve also heard word that at Mobile World Congress in a two weeks we’re going to be seeing a refresh for the Galaxy Tab although it may not be the edition to take on the up coming iPad 3.
