I’m sure that many of you have enjoyed visiting sites like Kim Jong-il looking at things or the borage of twitter jokes but here is some news that didn’t make me laugh. North Korea has warned that any of its citizens caught trying to defect to China or using mobile phones during the 100-day mourning period for Kim Jong-il will be branded as “war criminals” and punished accordingly.
Reports are trickling in that food supplies are again dwindling and an estimated 23,000 people have crossed the border into China. There has been worry that Jong-il’s death could trigger public unrest. According to the Telegraph, any discontent would be encouraged by reports sent into the country by mobile phone about conditions outside North Korea, as well as coverage of the popular uprisings in the Middle East last year that toppled long-ruling dictators.
North Korea should be afraid of the mobile phone, the Estrada government in the Philipines was toppled in 2001 because of it!
