It’s not $99 or $149 as in the famous HP firesale, but Woot! has refurbished 32 GB HP TouchPads for sale right now.

It’s kind of strange that Woot! has the TouchPads on sale today, since it has been reported that effective today, Jon Rubenstein, former CEO of Palm, has left HP. It’s probably coincidence, but still… =cue Twilight Zone theme song=

If you’ve ever wanted to try webOS, this would be a good time to snatch up a Touchpad. The hardware is decent, if a bit on the chubby side. With webOS going open source, you’re at least assured that the webOS community, namely the developers at WebOS Internals, will continue to maintain and develop the OS, and create cool apps for it. There are already quite a few great apps available for webOS.

In addition, with the release of Enyo 2.0, it makes it easy to develop Enyo apps and deploy them to iOS, Android, or Windows Phone. So you could learn how to develop cool apps for webOS, and easily port them over to other platforms.

But, if you want to look at this potential purchase another way, it’s a relatively inexpensive tablet on which to hack CyanogenMod builds. Currently there’s an “alpha 0.5″ version of CyanogenMod 9 available for the TouchPad which you could check out.

If you’re going to purchase one or more TouchPads, hurry, because Woot!’s sales only last for one day.
