If you’ve purchased a Kindle Fireas a gift, the nice thing to do will be to set it up before you it gets if official unwrapping. These are just a few idea’s for the basics of what you’ll want to do before you give the gift of mobile computing.
Preload Content
A bare bones Kindle Fire isn’t that impressive when you first turn it on, so it would be nice to put a few book and music on there so when they turn it on they’ll be greeted with an idea of how it can be filled out.
The first thing to consider is that the Kindle Fire is tied to the account you establish when you set it up. It’s easy enough to change accounts, but by doing so, you also lose any content you’ve purchased. The content isn’t really lost, but it’s tied to the account not to the physical device. So it’s best to set up the Kindle with an Amazon account that belongs to its eventual owner.
You’ve got a couple of options, first you can find out if they have an Amazon account and put that directly into the Fire, you’ll then have the option to load up all of the content they’ve already purchased. This could be tricky and might tip them off that you’ve gotten them a Fire. If that’s not an option you can get a hold of one of one of their email addresses, perhaps get someone close to them to give you a joint email address so that it’s already tied to their existing online world. This is the tricky part so you’ll have to get creative on how to access their information.
If they don’t have an Amazon account, then you’re in the clear, open one up in their name and start downloading books. Just be sure to write the log-in information on the instruction card that came with the device or in your heart felt Christmas card that accompanies the Fire.
If you don’t think that Preloading content is a good idea or its just too complicated why not get them an Amazon downloadable gift card and include it with the Kindle Fire. You choose the amount, pick the style of card, then Amazon sends you a PDF that you can print out and fold. Or if you don’t have a printer you can write out the codes in the card, easy peasy.
If you think you already dropped $199 on a tablet grab a micro USB and add some photo’s to the gallery to personalize the Fire a bit. If you’ve got a couple of mp3′s that you think they might like throw those on too!
When you get the Kindle Fire, it’s going to want to update the software, so plug it in and charge it up and update it. During the updating process make sure that you always use the eventual owners name!
If you’re going to be there when the gift is opened, make sure that you spend an hour or two getting to know the Fire, it’s always nice to be able to walk them through what’s going on so they understand just how cool the gift you just got them is.
The final thing you’ve got to remember when giving a Kindle Fire is once its unwrapped it’s not yours so hands off!!
