Acer was one of the first laptop manufacturers to release an Ultrabook, Intel’s answer to Apple’s Ultra-thin and light MacBook Air. Apparently their 11-inch and 13-inch models have been enough of a success that Acer will probably release a 15-inch Ultrabook as well.

Supposedly a different manufacturer, Pegatron, will handle Acer’s possible 15-inch Ultrabook instead of Wistron, who produces Acer’s current, smaller Ultrabook models. There is no release date for the 15-inch Ultrabook yet.

However, the surprising thing about this rumor from DigiTimes is that the 15-inch Ultrabook from Acer could be aggressively priced to move at $699. Acer’s Chairman, J. T. Wang, has said in the past that he feels Ultrabook prices need to be kept at around $699 in order to increase Ultrabook sales volumes and effectively compete against the MacBook Air and other Ultrabooks from other manufacturers.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it will be quite an accomplishment and differentiation for Acer, considering many other manufacturers are struggling to stay beneath the $1000 mark with their Ultrabook offerings.
