The CyanogenMod team has been hard at work ever since Google released Ice Cream Sandwich as open-source. CyanogenMod 9 is the new version for Ice Cream Sandwich-based ROMs. Currently some phones like the Nexus S already have CM9 builds available, but tablets are still forthcoming.

The CyanogenMod team posted in their blog update that two popular Tegra 2 tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and ASUS Eee Pad Transformer will be the first tablets to get a CM9 build. This is great news for people who are not yet upgrading their tablets but still want to experience Ice Cream Sandwich (plus some CyanogenMod extras) goodness.

The team also said in their update that unfortunately they will be dropping support going forward for original Motorola Droid smartphones. That’s not to say Droid owners won’t be able to find other 3rd-party Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs; they just won’t be coming from the CyanogenMod team. Time to upgrade your old smartphones, Droid users!
