Recent buyers of the ASUS Eee PC 1015BX have discovered that the netbook’s RAM is not user-replaceable, thanks to some cost-cutting measures employed by ASUS.
Apparently some users on the Blogeee.net forum took advantage of a good deal on the Eee PC 1015BX at French retailer Fnac.com where the 10-inch netbook equipped with the 1.33 GHz, dual-core AMD C-60 processor, 2 GB RAM, and a 500 GB HDD could be had for € 299.90.
One user wanted to upgrade the RAM to 4 GB to maximize performance and was dismayed to find out that the RAM had been permanently soldered to the motherboard! Several other buyers posted to the discussion thread on Blogeee.net and replied that they decided to return the netbook, frustrated by ASUS’s move to save a few cents in production costs.
It’s possible that other variations of the 1015BX in other countries may not have this limitation, but so far there’s no confirmation that other models with upgradeable memory exist.
