We’re not sure if this system falls in the netbook category, at least AMD doesn’t call it a netbook, but rather a thin and light notebook. However, the 11.6-inch screen of the Gateway LT3103u sort of puts it in the same category as several other recent netbooks.
The AMD Athlon 64 L110 isn’t exactly a monster of a processor at 1.2GHz (that’s actually slower than the Atom N270 at 1.6GHz in terms of raw GHz), but the AMD RS690E chipset with Radeon X1270 graphics should help boost the performance in the 2D and 3D graphics department compared to Intel’s 945GSE chipset.
Other features include a 250GB hard drive, 2GB of RAM (good move there), 1,366×768 display resolution, 802.11b/g WiFi, 0.3Megapixel webcam, a memory card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, a D-sub connector, 10/100Mbit Ethernet and a multi-gesture touch pad.
The operating system of choice is Windows Vista Home Basic, but hopefully it won’t be too long until a Windows 7 version will be out. At 1.38kg with a 6-cell battery, the T3103u isn’t too cumbersome for what you get. At $399.99 it looks like pretty decent value for money as well. You can find the product page here
Update
It seems like Acer changed the name from ZA8 to LT3103u and we did a quick hands on with the ZA8 at Computex. The video can be found here
