It’s no surprise that since Ice Cream Sandwich went open-source, unofficial ports for phones other than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus have come out. In this case, there is an alpha port of Ice Cream Sandwich for everyone’s favorite phone, the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The port is still alpha, meaning there are still a few major things that need to be fixed before it can be released to eager Galaxy S2 users. All of the phone radios — Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. — aren’t yet working. However, the touchscreen is responding well; apparently they fixed a flickering problem. Swiping on the screen looks smooth. They didn’t show off any apps running yet, but that will probably come soon.

So if you’ve pored over the lists that many manufacturers have provided indicating which phones will be getting Ice Cream Sandwich in the near future and didn’t see your device on the list, don’t worry. There’s bound to be an unofficial port made available for all sorts of devices very soon. And in many cases, unofficial ROMs, like the upcoming CyanogenMod 9 port of Ice Cream Sandwich, will be even better than a manufacturer-provided ROM.

Bonus: if you have an LG Optimus 3D, someone has apparently gotten Ice Cream Sandwich working on that device as well:
