There have been persistent rumors that GameStop would create their own gamer tablets to compete against the encroaching Android and iOS tablets eating away at gaming console sales. While this has yet to happen, GameStop has announced some “gamer tablet” bundles of certain existing Android tablets pre-loaded with Android games, and bundled with Bluetooth game controllers.
GameStop will be selling the Acer Iconia A100, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 as part of these bundles with 7 games — Dead Space, Re-Load, Sonic CD, Monster Madness, Riptide GP, Cordy, and the Kongregate Arcade App – and a Bluetooth controller:
The gaming tablet bundles are priced from $370 for the Acer Iconia A100, $440 for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and $540 for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. These aren’t the best prices for these tablets considering you can get them all for around $40 to $50 cheaper on Amazon, but of course, it would be without the Bluetooth controller and the games. While you could likely buy a separate Bluetooth game controller of your choice and configure it to work with your Android tablet, these gamer tablet bundles could appeal to people simply for the convenience of having it all set up already.
When compared to a gaming console purchase of an Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3, these bundles don’t really seem all that cheap, but if you aren’t a console gamer and are in the market for an Android tablet, GameStop still wants your business. The bundles are available for purchase on their website, but will ship only to US addresses.
