From our friends at Tabletblog.de, we get the disappointing but not entirely surprising news that when the Asus Transformer Prime tablet is shipped, it will come with Honeycomb on-board, not Ice Cream Sandwich.

Even though we know that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the first smartphone to have Ice Cream Sandwich installed, we are not yet sure which tablet will get Ice Cream Sandwich first. It’s a little strange, given that Ice Cream Sandwich is meant to be the “great unifier” between Android smartphones and tablets, that precious little has been said about or demoed showing Ice Cream Sandwich on actual tablets.

Sure, Motorola and Asus have been quick to say that soon after Ice Cream Sandwich is released, many of their major products like the Xoom, or the Eee Pad Transformer and Transformer Prime, will be getting upgrades to Android 4.0, but that’s still nebulous, since we don’t know how long it will take them in reality to push out these updates.

However, Asus’ official event announcing the Transformer Prime is still coming on Nov. 9, so perhaps by then we may get more details on when exactly the Transformer Prime will get an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. But I’m not holding my breath.
