According to Sony their new VAIO P ‘delivers a smarter on-the-move computing experience: Ultra-portable, easy to carry’. Which is true as the device weighs in at 632g and its new design is focused on two-handed operation while standing or walking.
Its a little big for thumb typing measuring 8 inches, but it you had really big hands, you’d be able to make a go of it. Perhaps the mouse navigation is move focused on the devices integrated GPS & Digital Compass for on the go navigation that can be used with the built in 3G.
The New VAIO P is also taking a stab at being a e-reader with its built in accelerometer sensor. Its a bit heavy at 600 Grams but it could be used for some light reading perhaps on a short commute to work, but not for sustained reading for several hours, the wrist strain would be too much.
The VAIO P11S1E has an Intel Atom Z540 1.86 GHz Processor & Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 with Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB DDR2 RAM a 64GB SSD Flash Drive. The screen size measures 20cm or 8” and supports 1600×768. The issue with super high resolution displays on small screens is that they will just give you a headache. This model is using Windows 7 which doesn’t simply scale the graphics and instead just makes everything look extraordinarily sharp… and tiny.
It comes in a variety of colours Orange, Green, Pink, Black or White. Other Specs Include WLAN 802.11b/g/n; Everywair 3G up to 7.2 Mbps; Bluetooth 2.1+EDR; stereo speakers and microphone; MOTION EYE® camera; 2xUSB; Quick WEB Access, Assist, Change Resolution buttons and will be available from June 2010. ”
From what we have seen so far its basical it’s old Vaio P with new colors and mouse pad.
