We learned a few days ago that Sony is going to announce a New Ultra Mobile Vaio which is the successor of the Sony VAIO P. Sascha in a post on our sister site NetbookNews.de has let us know that there will be a coming out event on May 10th in Japan & the US for the new device. Gizmodo Japan rumored that it would be sporting an AMOLED display due to a recent buyout of one of Sony’s LCD plants by Kyocera. Review models have already hit the street in Japan and have been deemed disappointing as its based on the Silverthorne platform! Netbooked as confirmed the Atom Z530 (1.6GHz) and Z560 (2.133GHz) processors and a trackpad.
Addition of the trackpad leaves trackball enthusiasts out in the cold and changes the form factor of the VAIO P into what might just look like another Shanzai VAIO P clone with trackpad like the Gemstone Viva below.
If this model follows the trend of so many other VAIO netbooks of the past its going to be a impeccably designed elegant machine with amazing marketing that is going to disappoint with its poor choice of CPU. If only it were to come to market with a competitive price, but we aren’t holding our breath on that one, but hey I’m pretty sure somebody did proove that pigs can in fact fly, so anything is possible.
