After Apple rejected Samsung’s proposals to lift the ban of the Galaxy Tab 10.1′s sale in Australia, it seems Samsung has taken the gloves off, renting a pop-up store near the Sydney Apple Store to lure prospective iPhone 4S buyers with $2, off-contract Galaxy S2 phones.
A huge line formed outside of the temporary Samsung store since Monday, but that’s because Samsung is only offering the $2 Galaxy S2s to the first 10 people in line each day this week. Samsung hopes to attract attention to their flagship Android phone with the increased foot traffic around the Apple Store as the iPhone 4S sale day approaches, and possibly change prospective iPhone 4S buyers’ minds.
However, according to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, a couple people already in line for the iPhone 4S (which goes on sale at 8 AM on Oct. 14) were approached by Samsung employees a few times to switch to the Galaxy S2 line. They wouldn’t budge.
It’s hard to say whether or not Samsung’s stunt will be successful. After all, some of the people getting the $2 Galaxy S2 could flip the brand-new phone to pay for an iPhone 4S. But then again, Samsung’s getting publicity for the stunt, so perhaps they’ve already won this round.
