Today was the day Samsung and Google were supposed to announce the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at CTIA Enterprise & Applications event in San Diego this week. We reported earlier that while Samsung and Google did not elaborate originally on why they canceled their announcement, they later said that they wanted to respect those mourning Steve Jobs’ passing.
Now there is an unconfirmed report floating around that Samsung and Google’s real reason for postponing their announcement is actually due to patent issues surrounding features of the Galaxy Nexus.
Eldar Murtazin posted on his Twitter account:
“Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 are under question. Google removing some features which are subject of patent war. No timeline for this job”
Murtazin has a solid reputation regarding insider information like this, so while the report is unconfirmed, this information does call into question Google and Samsung’s reasons for postponing today’s big announcement. If Murtazin’s information does turn out to be true, it doesn’t make either Samsung or Google look good, claiming to delay the event out of respect for Steve Jobs.
