A discussion thread on the infamous 4Chan forum (which already seems to have been taken down today) popped up where the original poster claimed some Samsung reps visited his office and showed off a couple new phone prototypes — the next rumored flagship Android phone, Samsung Nexus Prime, and a Samsung Galaxy S III. Take all of this with a HUGE grain of salt, because the original poster wasn’t allowed to take photos of the devices, and was posting all of the details he could from memory.

Some notable specs as captured on TechnoBuffalo:

  • Dual-core Samsung Exynos CPU at 1.5 GHz with 1GB RAM
  • 4.65-inches, 1280 x 720 HD display: Super AMOLED Plus
  • 8.8mm thick, somewhat heavier than the Galaxy S II
  • Metal body
  • 16GB internal storage + SD card slot
  • 2000 mAh battery

Additionally, the Nexus Prime, which the thread author claims is actually called the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, reportedly looks like a combination of the body of the Galaxy S II (Amazon link) with the curved screen of the Nexus S (Amazon link).

As it should, the device looked to be running Ice Cream Sandwich, but the anonymous 4Chan poster claimed the Android version number was 2.4.1, not a more appropriate 4.x version, since Ice Cream Sandwich is meant to be the next major revision of Android above Honeycomb (3.x) that merges both phone and tablet UIs and makes it easier for developers to code apps to run on both categories of devices.

All of the details are fuzzy, but an article on Android and Me has agreed that many of the specs posted jive with earlier stories that have come out about both Ice Cream Sandwich and the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus). Of course, it could be that the original poster culled all of those stories posted so far and concocted the somewhat convincing thread about the Samsung reps visiting his office; we don’t know anything for sure at this point. But as Ice Cream Sandwich is to be released before the end of this year, we won’t have long to see how much of this story rings true.

Update: Eldar Murtazin a man who has a reputation for insider information, has confirmed the rumo the Samsung Galaxy S 3 will pretty much double up on the processing power of its predecessor and the current performance king, the Samsung Galaxy S 2. That equates to almost double the clock speed (2GHz) and double the cores (four).

EldarTwitter confirms these same specs:

Samsung S3 and specs are real nexus prime :-)
