Intel’s Cedar Trail Netbooks were meant to hit the shelves in the 2nd half of 2011 with availablity for the Holiday Season. After attending the Tablet and Netbook Q&A we learned that Cedar Trail is on track for 2011 availbility but we won’t be able to pick them up for the holiday season which means that we are likely to see them in ship in December.
At IDF Beijing back in May we learned about some of the features available on Cedar Trail. Today at the Fall IDF Cindy Ng, Netbook & Hybrid Segment Marketing Manager let us know that we would also see Intel Smart Connect Technology and Fast Boot & Standby will use Intel’s Rapid Start technology. So what exactly has been added?
Intel’s Rapid Start Technology was announced by Mooley Eden during the the video here.keynote on Day 2. Rapid Start enables devices to resume from hibernate and connect to the internet in sub 7 seconds. In the demo that we got on stage we saw the screen wake up in 3 seconds. What we had heard in the keynote was that these fast book times were going to be a standard feature on all Ultrabooks and is initially be exclusive to Ultrabooks. Since the Toshiba Z830 is meant to be released in November we can only assume that we are going to see a December release date for Cedar Trail. If you want to see the demo please check out
The second technology that originally wasn’t listed in the Cedar Trail Feature stack was Smart Connect which checks up periodically on web apps you have open while your computer is in sleep mode. This means that email clients and in-browser web apps like Twitter and Facebook will update themselves without the need for you to flip the computer on in full. Updates will be ready and waiting for you when you get back.
