Picking The Best Laptops for Playing League of Legends 2024

CPU

League of Legends has lower demands for processing power compared to other video games but it still does require a CPU that has at least 3Ghz of power. Fortunately, most CPUs these days meet these requirements and there are even some Intel Core i3a that meet this requirement as well.

However, if you want the best performance for competitive play, we recommend at least getting a Core i5 CPU or an AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.

Of course, if you really want the best possible performance then there’s nothing stopping you from getting a Core i7 or even a Core i9 laptop. It really helps install the game faster during those new patches.

GPU

The minimum requirements for a GPU in League of Legends isn’t stated which goes to show that it can run the game even when using an integrated graphics card as long as it supports DirectX 9 and higher versions and has at least 512 MB VRAM.

But if you want to play the game on higher graphical settings we suggest using a graphics card that’s equivalent to or better than the AMD Radeon HD 5670.  Newer and better versions of the AMD Radeon GPUs or Nvidia Geforce GPUs will do as well.

Display

League of Legends is a competitive game.  The display and resolution might seem unimportant for such a game but it matters more than you think. A larger display will give you a better view of the map and of the things happening in the game.

Having a better view gives a better insight into the situation allowing you to make the right moves and calls enabling you to win and play better. Additionally, a better resolution will also give you a better view of the graphics as well.

It would be such a shame if you can’t appreciate the game in a super high graphical setting despite hanging a killer GPU after all.

Storage

Storage space is also very important for League of Legends. It has so many assets and files to store that you need at least 12 GB of storage space. We advise reserving more storage space than that as well if you plan to back up some of your in-game files as well.

Price

Last but not least we have your allotted budget and the price of the laptop. As we’ve said before, League of Legends isn’t a very demanding game which means that you can buy cheaper laptops to play the game.

This is of course, if you don’t mind playing it at lower graphic settings. However, if you have the cash and want the best possible experience performance-wise and graphics-wise, then feel free to buy the more high-end gaming laptops if you want.

Is it Better to Play League of Legends on a PC or a Laptop?

The decision is all yours. League of Legends isn’t a very demanding game so it’s suitable for both laptops and computers.

Playing League of Legends on a laptop gives you the benefits of mobility and versatility, so you can enjoy the game wherever you have an internet connection. On the other hand, playing League of Legends on a computer gives you the ability to play in a higher resolution and better video settings since most PCs today can easily meet the recommended video settings.

While you might have to deal with a smaller display on a laptop, it’s not an inconvenience since you can always connect your laptop to an external monitor, just the way you do with a computer.

Heating is one of the things you can also consider, but since League of Legends isn’t a demanding game, you can play it even on an office laptop with decent configuration, whilst meeting recommended requirements.

Can a Normal Laptop Run League of Legends Well?

A normal laptop is a laptop that’s not meant for gaming, but it’s more available to people due to a very decent manufacturing price. This is the type of laptop every household most likely has.

So the answer is, yes, a normal laptop can run League of Legends. With the game not being overly demanding, it can be run on minimum settings to meet the minimum requirements of the game.

However, possible drawbacks of playing League of Legends on normal laptops include average or below-average screen quality, increased heating (resulting in fan noise), having to keep the game on the lowest settings, and lower in-game FPS with possible lags.

While we don’t recommend purchasing a normal laptop for League of Legends, we encourage you to make the most of it if you already own it. Going for a normal laptop with slightly better specifications is better for the long run. It’ll help you play League of Legends more effortlessly while taking on a wide range of tasks.

Is League of Legends Heavier on CPU or GPU?

League of Legends is heavier on the processor (CPU) and we believe it’s actually good news for all gamers who want to enjoy the game on a laptop. CPU-based games are much easier to run on all sorts of devices, including regular laptops and older computers.

With the need for a better CPU, graphics isn’t as important as it’s in the second plan. So games like League of Legends can do well on laptops that don’t have an integrated graphics card. For example, certain laptops we’ve mentioned can handle League of Legends with integrated Intel HD graphics.

Of course, it’s important to check out the version of the integrated HD graphics, to ensure proper compatibility and meeting of the game’s requirements. Earlier in the post, you could see the minimum and recommended requirements of League of Legends. More good news is that the requirements didn’t change a lot even after many game updates.

Whilst some games tend to require more powerful configurations to run the game after many updates, League of Legends is still a game that’s fairly easy to run. So when you’re purchasing a new laptop, it’s important to check the processor first and then focus on the graphics and other aspects of the laptop.

How Many Cores Do You Need to Run League of Legends on a Laptop?

league-of-legends-requireents

If you’re wondering if your laptop or PC you have can run League of Legends, you’re in luck because we have more good news. Since League of Legends is a fairly easy game to run since it’s not very demanding on the configuration, you don’t need a powerful processor.

Riot Games states you only need a 2GHz CPU to run League of Legends and you can even run it with a dual-core processor. While dual-core processors could be a bit of a struggle among modern processors, it’s most likely your modern laptop can run League of Legends with ease.

Most laptops and computers today have at least 4 core processors and they’re a lot more powerful than just 2GHz. This means that you won’t have a hard time finding a laptop that’s ideal for League of Legends. However, our advice is to go for the best laptop your budget allows you. This way, you might even get to set the video settings to the highest setting to fully enjoy the game while having a good FPS.

How Many FPS is Good for League of Legends on a Laptop?

Now that you know what configuration you need to meet the minimum or recommended requirements, what type of CPU you would need, and how many cores – another important thing to consider is the FPS.

FPS stands for frames per second and it’s the main show of how many frames are rendered and shown during the gameplay in a second. The higher the number, the smoother and lag-free your gameplay will be. But if you lack any frames, you will experience lags, stutter, and video issues.

To enjoy League of Legends, we recommend having at least 60 FPS. Of course, if you can achieve these frames per second at all high video settings, you’ll love the increased visuals, in a still very smooth way.

If you are experiencing FPS drops and can’t have a steady FPS of at least 60 and above, it’s best to lower some of the video settings to ensure much smoother gameplay. This is also best combined with a higher refresh rate monitor if you decide to use one with your laptop.

Higher refresh rate monitors can provide more fluid visuals at a faster pace with the lowest amount of lag. There’s only one thing to keep in mind. If you have a 100Hz monitor, you’ll need at least 100 FPS in League of Legends to match the monitor and gain the benefits of a higher refresh rate.

Is Intel Celeron Processor Good Enough for League of Legends?

Intel Celeron is a processor that’s not designed for gaming, but it can run some games. When it comes down to playing League of Legends using an Intel Celeron, it all comes down to the model of the processor in question.

However, the good news is you could still play League of Legends on most Intel Celeron processor models. The only downside is that with some, you might not get to experience very smooth gameplay. Instead, you’ll have to settle for about 40 FPS instead of the minimum we’ve recommended, which is 60 FPS. But as long as you can get the FPS to stay stable, Intel Celeron can be a decent processor if you have no other laptop to use.

If you’re thinking of spending money to buy a laptop powered by an Intel Celeron, we recommend saving a little bit more or investing in a used laptop that will come with a better configuration.

Is There a Laptop With High-Refresh Rate Screen Suitable for League of Legends?

high-refresh-rate-laptop

While a higher refresh rate isn’t necessary for games like League of Legends since the gameplay isn’t very fast-paced, it’s not a bad idea to invest in a laptop with a better screen.

60Hz is more than enough for League of Legends, but your eye can definitely notice the difference after switching to a 100Hz or even a 120Hz display. A couple of laptops on our list feature an integrated display with a higher refresh rate, so they’re worth checking out.

But besides the high refresh rate monitor, we also recommend going for a quality display like IPS. The display type can also make a huge difference in the viewing angles, color, accuracy, and more. For games like League of Legends, investing in a quality display type is a much better idea than going after a high refresh rate.

With modern technology being so affordable for the average household today, it’s good to see that IPS display types are featured in some of the mid-tier or even lower-budget laptops on the market. So if you don’t have a huge budget, you can still get a decent laptop that can run League of Legends and be sure you’ll enjoy the gameplay.

Which is Better for LoL: RTX or GTX?

nvidia-gtx-and-rtx

RTX series from NVIDIA Graphics are always a more powerful version of their GPUs. If you’re building a higher-end gaming computer, going for an RTX always makes a better choice.

However, when it comes down to playing only League of Legends, you don’t need to aim for the RTX. Any graphics from the GTX series will be more than enough to play League of Legends at the highest settings with a very decent FPS.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, League of Legends isn’t a very GPU-consuming game and since it’s based on the CPU, we recommend investing more money in a quality CPU than in the GPU.

Is Ray Tracing Technology Useful for League of Legends?

Ray Tracing Technology is a great feature, but unfortunately, it’s not available with the League of Legends and it’s very unlikely it’ll ever make it into League of Legends. Some players wonder how did Minecraft succeed at implementing Ray Tracing Technology, but Riot can’t do the same with League of Legends.

The main reason is that it would be a huge mess to integrate Ray Tracing Technology into League of Legends’s game code. Also, more players are playing League of Legends on a computer that wouldn’t be able to handle Ray Tracing Technology than players with high-end rigs that could benefit from it.

While it’s a great thought, it’s unfortunately something you don’t need to worry about when assessing your computer for playing League of Legends.

Is There a Laptop With Higher Refresh Rate Suitable for League of Legends?

Yes, it’s common to see gaming laptops feature a display with a higher refresh rate. However, this is something you shouldn’t worry about if you only plan on playing League of Legends.

Since League of Legends isn’t a first-person shooter type of game and it’s not fast-paced, you won’t benefit much even if you have a higher refresh rate display.

Can League of Legends be Played on an Integrated Graphics Card?

Yes, one of the greatest things is that League of Legends isn’t demanding on the graphics card and yet it’s more based on the CPU.

With that being said, you can play League of Legends with a computer that only has an integrated graphics card. That’s something you can even find in Riot’s official game requirements published on the official website. As long as you have a decent processor, you can get away with playing League of Legends on an integrated GPU.

Can You Play League of Legends on a MacBook?

league-of-legends-on-a-macbook

MacBooks are getting more powerful every year, but can you actually play League of Legends on one?

The long answer is, yes you can, but it might not be worth it in our opinion. While MacBook laptops are getting extremely powerful nowadays, it’s not the configuration you should be worried about, but compatibility.

There’s one thing to keep in mind though. macOS supports League of Legends only in the US portal, so you must download the US portal.

Conclusion

Luckily, you don’t need to break the bank to find the laptop suitable for League of Legends. With lower game requirements, almost anyone can run the game, even on the laptops you might have in your household.

That’s just one of many reasons why this game is so extremely popular and why it never got any bigger graphic updates. If you’re buying a new laptop and are interested in playing other games, we highly recommend going for a gaming laptop. But if you need a versatile laptop that can meet all your needs and still help you occasionally play League of Legends on weekends, you can go with almost any decent laptop that’s built for multipurpose.

What are you currently playing League of Legends on? Do you prefer playing LoL on a PC or a laptop?
