Sascha just posted a video update from IFA 2011, showing a couple real-time benchmark tests — Quadrant and Vellamo — comparing the Samsung Galaxy S2 with the new Acer Iconia Smart superphone.
Refresher on relevant specs..
Acer Iconia Smart
- 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (MSM8255)
- 512 MB RAM
- 4.8″ screen, 1024 x 480
Samsung Galaxy S2
- 1.2 GHz dual-core Exynos processor (XMM6260)
- 1 GB RAM
- 4.3″ screen, 800 x 480
While running the Quadrant benchmark test, the Acer Iconia Smart averaged between 35-45 FPS, and got a final score of 1743. The Samsung Galaxy S2 averaged between 50-60 FPS, and ended up with a final score of 2892, which Sascha actually thought was a little low. In previous tests, he was able to get a 3200 with the S2.
He then started the Vellamo benchmark test that was already installed on the Iconia Smart, then downloaded and installed the same bench test on the S2 and started it late. Spoiler alert: the S2 eventually overtook the Iconia Smart and won the race! Furthermore the final Vellamo score was 933 (S2) vs. 736 (Iconia Smart), a difference of almost 30%. It seems that even though the Iconia Smart is the new kid on the block, the S2 is still tops in this comparison.
