Earlier we reported that Toshiba would be releasing a sleek, thin tablet as a follow-up to their Thrive tablet. Not too much was known about it beyond the details of its thinner form-factor, but now we know a possible name: Excite. According to an article on Android Police, someone named “Babyfacemcgee” was able to predict the name of the Thrive by doing a little snooping around Toshiba’s US trademark filings and domain registrations. It turned out “Babyfacemcgee” was dead on back then. The same kind of snooping revealed this trademark filing mentioning an “Excite” trademark under the tablet computers category:
Furthermore, domains like excitetablet.com and toshibaexcite.com have been registered to Toshiba and redirect to a Toshiba site. It’s possible that Excite may be a name for another tablet that we don’t yet know about, but if I were a betting girl, I’d say the signs point to the leaked tablet we saw making the rounds just a few days ago. At least with IFA 2011 coming up very soon, we won’t have long to wait.
