There has been a lot of talk about Samsung picking up HP’s Personal Computing Business, but it seems Samsung has had enough and has issued an official statement on their official blog “Samsung Tomorrow“.  It’s short sweet and to the point:

Regarding Recent Rumors about Samsung’s PC Business

The recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.’s personal computer business are not true.

We hope this clarifies any confusion that may have occurred.

So for everyone that thought that Taiwan’s component manufacturers were going to suffer loosing their business to Korea can rest at ease.  Shocking that you can’t trust everything that Digitimes publishes! So it looks like we’re going to have to run with the other option, do you think that Oracle is thinking of buying HP? Its the only other rumor I’ve noticed out there and Forbes is asserting that oracle would be interested in HP because of its enterprise assets, however, HP is looking to focus on enterprise and spin off the PC side. So is there enough enterprise in the personal computing division to actually interest HP?  I’m personally not convinced, what do you think?

Well if Samsung doesn’t want it, who does? Notebook PC makers are in a perilous ‘race to the bottom’ that will likely end in misery for all concerned because there’ll be no more profit in selling notebooks! Samsung is the only vendor with enough upstream component business to subsidize their PC business and turn single digit into the double digit profits that justify the R&D and manufacturing costs necessary to succeed as a PC OEM. Who else would possibly even entertain the idea of buying this amputation from one of the few industry leaders who should be able to maintain their margins!
