Point of View is preparing ION netbook

Point of View is yet another graphics card company that has decided to jump onto the netbook bandwagon and its Mobii ION 230. As the name suggests it’s powered by the Nvidia ION chipset and it has a design that looks very familiar to some of the early devices we spotted at Computex earlier this month.

We can’t say that we’re overly keen on this design and we’re not quite sure who makes it, but it looks like it’ll be sold under a wide range of different brands beyond Point of View.

The build quality of the units at Computex were mediocre at best and they were falling apart just by being handled by the media during the Nvidia press conference. This was a bad sign, but hopefully the models on display were pre-production units and the Point of View Mobii shouldn’t fall apart in your hands.

In terms of specifications you’re looking at a 10.2-inch display with 1,024×600 resolution, an Atom 230 desktop processor (strange choice of CPU here, we expected it to come with the mobile Atom N270), 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive, HDMI output, 802.11b/g WiFi, a memory card reader, two USB 2.0 ports, a 1.3Megapixel webcam and Gigabit Ethernet. Bluetooth is optional.

The 6-cell battery is said to be good for up to 4h of untethered usage and the Mobii will be available in white, black, yellow, red and lime. It will also come with Linux as the default OS of choice and it’s expected to hit retail for around €349 in July. More here
