There is a lots of talk in the industry about the sad state of netbook sales here are some stats from Taiwanese display manufacturers here in Taiwan. Digitimes has published the below numbers which are according to industry sources.
- AU Optronics (AUO) 800,000
- HannStar Display 800,000
- Chimei Innolux Corporation (CMI) 750,000
- Samsung Electronics 300,000
- LG Display (LGD) 400,000
Taiwan-based panel makers have seen an increase in netbook panel shipments shipments in March while Taiwans Korean competitors’ have seen a drop.
It is interesting to note that the netbook panels do not include the 9.7″ panel for the iPad. LGD who provides the iPad Panel shipped almost 500,000 panels for iPad in March which is up from February’s 350,000 units. But then again March has 31 days and February only has 28 days and throw Chinese New into the mix and you have your reason for the drastic dip. The Netbook Segment is meant to decrease in popularity but Smartbooks and other 10″ form factors are going to be stepping in. 2.35 Million panels shipped in 1 month doesn’t really seem like a dead segment to me.
