When Nokia first announced it was shipping the N9 it put out a list of 23 countries that it would be available in and the US wasn’t one of them.  It seems that this fact has been confirmed. Engadget has reached out to Espoo to nail down a US ship date for the N9 and we received the sad news:

“After the very positive reception to the launch of the Nokia N9, the product is now being rolled out in countries around the world. At this time we will not be making it available in the US. Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout, and each country makes its own decisions about which products to introduce from those available. Decisions are based on an assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s extensive product portfolio and the best way in which to address local market opportunities.”

That’s a crying shame, but we get it, if you’re Nokia and you want to make sure people buy the Windows Phone 7 version and you don’t want MeeGo to succeed, keep it out of your major markert. That’s too bad for the US, but lucky for the countries that it will be available in. The thing is about MeeGo, is that it will be able to run all the Android Apps, so its app store isn’t going to be bare, like say Bada! If you’re wondering which 23 countries are going to be accessing this handset here is the list that that Nokia made available which to date has held true.

Australia – To be released with vodafone exclusively
Hong Kong
New Zealand
Saudi Arabia
Sweden – September 23rd expected date
Switzerland – September 15th expected date

Funny… I don’t see Ireland or the UK on that list, it would appear Nokia have lost their mind. Good job elop you dunce.

They have solely manufactured 92000 devices to supply those markets where WP7 won’t be available at the beginning. That is the reasoning behind why the N9 won’t be a success and why they are keeping away key markets like the US, Germany, France or the UK

Makes sense. Not a whole lot of people would have bought it anyway.
