With IDF in Beijing in full effect its not surprising that there is more news around Intel’s Atom. Enter Tunnel Creek a system-on-chip an Atom based CPU that goes by the name of Queensbay. To help you keep it straight Pinetrail is the street name of Pineview, just like Queensbay is what we will call Tunnel Creek, its an evolution. Tunnel Creek offers hyperthreading, Intels ‘VT’ virtualisation technology and comes with 600Mhz, 1Ghz and 1.3Ghz but only supports 1GB of RAM and integrated gigabit LAN. The PCIe bus opens the platform up to Ion which offers the graphics that everyone is looking for on their mobile devices. All of this runs on just 5TDP which is why the news at IDF in Beijing comes as no surprise (that and the fact that they have made this next step on their roadmap pretty clear since the launch of MeeGo). Intel has announced a partnership with Chinese auto manufacturer HawTai to produce a MeeGo-based infotainment system. In-Vehicle entertainment, IPTV and Media Phones are all areas that Intel has been targeting for several months. Below is an add for a meeting last month to explore the possibilities of MeeGo.
China Mobile is also looking to rely on Intel chips for “targeted platforms powering its wireless networks” and to “provide our broadband wireless network the benefits of world class energy efficiency.” We have gathered all of this information from our Meet Mobility compatriot Chippy over at UMPC Portal so if you want more information and greater detail then I’ve provided here, slide on over. But before you do here is an Intel video Introducing Tunnel Creek, the Robot Dog has to be the most anticipated gadget!
