Whenever someone asks for cheap Android tablet I always refer them to Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Color, even if it’s not fully-fledged Android out of the box. It’s the best tablet you can get for $249. However, people like choice and there are always other cheap alternatives popping up like the ViewSonic ViewBook VB730 which was announced in early June which packs in a few features you won’t get on the Nook Color. Today, it starts shipping in the US at Amazon.com, priced at $229.
Design wise, it reminds me of the Nook Color, without the signature corner. The screen is 7-inch with a 800 x 480 resolution, and it packs an aging 1GHz Cortex A8 processor. Other specs include 8GB of internal flash storage, 512MB of RAM, Android 2.2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, “exclusive RiteTouch” pen technology, VGA front camera, HDMI out, MicroSD card reader, Flash and Amazon App store pre-installed and an 8 hour battery.
There’s more product information over at ViewSonic.
