Google has recently launched Google + which is their move into the social networking ecosystem and its not surprising that they’re incorperating their other services into the mix. Anyone sporting an NFC enabled handset that can now read tags with the Google+ app, to allow for quicker sharing. Google has been promoting NFC, or near-field communications, for a while now the issue is that we’re waiting on a critical mass of handsets to hit the market, predictions estimate that Valentine’s Day 2012 will see the mainstream adoption. So for now the few handsets that are on the market will get passed over a sensor which we see initially becoming popular with applications in Google + like Google Places for location sharing.
In the video below we’ve got a demo of a custom NFC tag when the Nexus S makes contact it launches the Google+ app, with the text you see on the screen set to be shared. This is merely a proof of concept, its nothing over the moon impressive, but it does start to open the doors of possibility for what we might be able to do with Google + and NFC.
