HP’s Touchpad is in our hands for an Unboxing video and after we got done taking it out of the box, we decided to compare it to the Apple iPad 2, Eee Pad Transformer and BlackBerry Playbook.  Are you curious to see how this tablet stacked up against the rest?  We don’t want to spoil to for you and really do want you to watch the video, but in a nut shell…Poorly. I’m sure you’ve read some reviews that have flooded the US based sites. WebOS 3.0 shines but the hardware is a bit on the chunky side and there’s, as expected, a shortage in apps.

It’s at places like Amazon.com as well, ready to ship from $499.99 for 16GB or $599.99 for 32GB. But if you want to understand exactly why it didn’t stack up compared to a few different tablets, the iPad 2, the 16GB version available for $499,  is currently the industry best seller, the ASUS Transformer is the best Android Tablet currently, available for $426 for the 16GB edition, on the market and the BlackBerry Playbook, available for $489 also at 16GB,  is holding its own as an enterprise tablet.

Reviewer made some good points about the weigh and thickness as well as pricey. I got the impression of bias on the reviewer part. I also felt that after the open box, the reviewer should have had a 2nd video READY to point out operation(s). I’m sure many readers are novices like me and
trying to make an intelligent decision on which tablet to purchase!

What the hell is HP thinking pricing this exactly like the iPad?  To the average consumer (who doesn’t salivate and drool over OS), TouchPad doesn’t stand a chance.  Let me know when it is heavily discounted, which I assume will happen in about 6 months.  Such a shame that the tablet race is off to a unimpressive start.
