Apple and Samsung have been in an ongoing battle which could cost them their manufacturing contract for Apple’s next generation processor the A6. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is in the running for the contract according to both a Taipei Merill Lynch analyst and an Ars Technica source.
What new in this bit of news is that TSMC might be replacing Samsung completely rather then just joining them as a supplier. Having more then one chipset supplier would fit into Apple’s plan of ramping up production as there are rumors that there will be more then 1 5th geneartion iPhone released. However, it seems that things are turning out badly for Samsung as they maybe cut out all together. This would be a huge loss for Samsung since Apple’s is their 2nd largest compenent buyer which means the would loose $5.7bn in sales a year.
Samsung is currently producing both the Apple A4 and the dual-core A5 as found in the iPad 2.
