So it looks like this is a morning for gossip, but hey, every once and a while geeks get gitty like school girls too. But I’m going to dish a little more dirt on what has been going on in Asia to give you the complete picture to this rumor.
First of all, over the past few months there has been a labor shortage in Southern China and ACER and Winstron have been using their brand name to help attract workers to the factories which supply them computer parts. The fact that the iPad is delayed due to parts shortage is actually no surprise. In case the rest of the world was in doubt, things are fine in Asia and we aren’t seeing the same hard times that are still evident in the US.
So now that you know the reality of manufacturing in Asia, lets delve into this Digitimes Rumor which originates with a Chinese-language report on Liberty Times. According to Digitimes “The report claimed that Wintek is facing a manufacturing bottleneck in its touch panel production, and its low yield rate for touch panels has hampered its shipments to Apple.”
It doesn’t end there, in the style of Taiwanese companies and alegations like these they have filed a statement with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) saying “that all of its operations have been running in line with its plans, and it declined to comment on individual clients or particular orders”
Over the next six months as the region around Hong Kong deals with its labor shortage we might be hearing more stories like this. I hear that many factories dealing with the decision to either move further in land where there are more workers available or stay and work it out.
