Motorola was the first on the block with a Honeycomb Android tablet back in February but even ’til today it doesn’t have a working MicroSD card reader while other tablet manufacturers have been shipping with working card readers. An Android 3.1 update in May brought a lot of improvements but the card reader was not one of them. Come today, Motorola have finally fixed the problem and will be rolling out “SD Card activation” with Honeycomb 3.1 on non-US devices. Europeans can expect the update over the next several weeks.

As for the US model, the fix is coming. Motorola had this to say on Twitter in response to frustrated Americans:

“Google is refining the SD card solution for U.S.-based Motorola Xoom devices & we’ll share timing info as soon it’s available”

People will still buy Motorola phones for the fact they are ‘MOTOROLA’ because they are a brand that is trusted in quality, their devices will still SELL, hence they keep it locked, because the devices still sell a lot.
