Now that the HP Touchpad is shipping July 1 we should hopefully learn more about that other upcoming HP tablet which doesn’t have a product name yet but it has the ‘Opal’ codename just like the TouchPad has the ‘Topaz’ codename.  Both tablets were simultaneously leaked back in January and were spot on with the specs and release dates. The ‘Opal’ is a 7-inch version of the TouchPad with the same 1024 x 768 4:3 ratio display except it may not have an IPS display. It was rumored to be released in September back then and confirmed a couple of months ago when a product calendar from Staples was leaked out showing the ‘HP 7″‘ tablet due out in September although pricing was not disclosed. Last week HP filed numerous TouchPad related trademarks so it may be called the “TouchPad7″ among other possibilities.

Now the tablet is showing up in the compatibility lists of each app on HP’s WebOS app homepage when you hover over app descriptions. The same hover balloon also shows the app price, webOS version required and other HP Palm devices. You can see the TouchPad ‘Topaz’ in there as well.
