Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference is underway in San Fanscisco today and along side OSX Lion there were a number of announcements but the one so far that’s caught our eye is a revamped notification system called Notifications Center. We sit up and take notice because it reminds us of Android’s notification which is useful, non-intrusive, accessible, and easy to use. Does this mean that Apple’s playing catch up with Android, probably not, but leveraging the successes of an operating system which is hot on its heels may decrease differentiation. Apple still has a volume advantage with its App Store, but how long that lead will last is an unknown. The other feature that’s ported over from Android is the lock screen, this is actually a feature that Windows 8 has also adopted.
