The Motorola Atrix is a very exciting design which gave the smartbook concept a second chance. The lapdock uses the smatphone as the processor powering a shell of a netbook book that is essentially a screen and keyboard with an extra battery. It look like ASUS is not going to be left out in the thread of development with an announcement that they will be launching a hybrid product at Computex 2011 on May 30th. This is not at all surprising since they’ve already come out with the Eee Pad Transformer which has a detachable keyboard. We’re guessing it is going to have a dual core processor, most likely an Nvidia Tegra 2. We’re also guessing that it is going to be running Android, but if its a phone it would have to be Gingerbread and if its a tablet they’ll want Honeycomb. We’ll have to wait and see what happens on Monday.

In the meantime Notebook Italia has done a mock up for those of you who don’t want to wait. I have to admit its a pretty interesting proof of concept design that they’ve come up with. I can’t wait to see just how close they go to the real thing. Stay tuned for our coverage of the ASUS Press Conference at Computex, we’ll be there live.
