Remember when 1024 x 600 was the norm on 10-inch tablets last year? These days the norm has been boosted to 1280 x 800. Heck, by next year we might even see a couple of manufacturers go much higher. Like 2560 x 1600 or WQXGA resolution. Samsung will be showcasing such a 10-inch, 300 PPI display next week.
The display will utilize Samsung’s own PenTile technology they’ve been touting at display events over the years (previously at 1366 x 768, 400 nits max) which is up to 40% more power efficient and it does that by combining fewer and larger subpixels (dots that make up a pixel, traditionally RGB) with a new white (W) subpixel Element (basically white light from the backlight without any color filtering).
