Compulab’s Trim Slice Tegra 2 smarttop is now finally on sale after debuting in January this year. There are three models on sale:
- “Barebones” model – forgoes Wi-Fi and storage (which can be added through dongles) and costs $199.
- “Value” model – adds a 4GB MicroSD card for storage and includes a Wi-Fi dongle. The ARM version of Ubuntu comes pre-installed. Costs $219.
- “Pro” model – includes a 32GB SSD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dongle and includes ARM Ubuntu pre-installed. Priced at $319.
Interestingly, before purchasing, there’s a warning page mentioning that while Tegra 2 hardware is great and all, the software side of things is still WIP and at this stage is mostly recommended to software developers rather than the casual user.
The Trim Slice comes with a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 4x USB 2.0 ports, micro USB, Gigabit LAN, SD and MicroSD card slots, HDMI 1.3a, DVI-D supporting up to 1680 x 1050 and 5.1 channel audio through S/PDIF or HDMI out.
