Intel apparently has found its first ‘Medfield’ smartphone partner in Chinese manufacturer ZTE. Business Week has unearthed an unnamed source at IDF Beijing 2011 indicating that Intel may have supplied the phone design for their Medfield smartphone with plans for distribution in China.

ZTE is the eighth-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world and is looking to become the first smartphone with the Intel platform that we’ve been waiting 2 years for. Currently there are Intel smartphones on the market as all manufacturers are almost exclusively on ARM processors. Intel itself would not comment further and referred only to the fact that they were working on a number of cooperation agreements.

ZTE however, was more open and confirmed that they have actually led talks with Intel. The last time we heard about Medfield was from former Vice President Anand Chandrasekhar, who stated that Intel had plans to bring the first Medfield device to market this year.

Looks like China is getting all the goodies, between this news and the Razer Switchblade I’m glad we’re located so close!
