While ASUS is said to be planning a $200 chrome OS netbook, Sony on the other hand is rumored to be preparing an Ultra thin and light, Tegra 2 powered 11.6-inch Chrome OS notebook, most likely with a few more hundred dollars going along with the price tag. Sony Insider lists the following specs:

Sony Vaio Chrome OS notebook specs

  • 11.6″ 1366×768 display
  • Nvidia Tegra 2
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 16GB on board storage
  • Wi-Fi
  • wide keyboard (18mm) similar to Google’s Chrome Cr-48 keyboard
  • 29.8 cm x 21.5 cm x 19.9 mm dimensions
  • 2.2 lb / 1.0kg weight
  • 8 hour battery life
  • GPS and Bluetooth at a later date
  • Sony apps included with Chrome OS

There’s also another VAIO notebook in the works that looks very interesting but will no doubt be quite expensive and we don’t know what size it’ll be. Apparently there are two parts to this VAIO “Hybrid PC” – one is the notebook and the other might be a dock or something turning it into a desktop judging by the specs. Sony Insider says the non-notebook part reminds them of the Sony Vaio RM.
