The thing about netbooks is that they are cheap, so cheap infact that you won’t find handy features like a backlit keyboard. Since netbooks are so cheap we are finding more people willing to risk the architecture of their mobile machines to make the magic happen. MyDellMini user vrg3 came up with an interesting solution. He opened up his Dell Mini 9 netbook and added a LED into the bezel near the webcam. Then he wired it up so that he could turn the light on and off by resizing and holding the Ctrl key.

You could just put the screen brightness angle the lid down towards the keyboard or get an old school book light and clip it to your netbook. That sounds like the safe, easy and boring way out! So if you want to drill holes in your netbook and don’t mind voiding your warranty, hit up the MyDellMini forum for details and more photos.
