Apple today announced the iPad 2, and whilst it brings with it some new hardware and a dashingly thin chassis, it still retains the dated IOS 4.2 operating System. So whats new? It is significantly lighter than the first generation iPad. And like the iTouch 4 it features the much speculated front and rear cameras. The creme of the crop is however, its Dual Core Cortex A9. Whats that you say? Oh its Apples “A5 SOC” .
Likewise the specifications remain rather unchanged for the most part. It will feature 16, 32, or 64Gb of flash based storage, WiFi B/G/N , a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 IPS multi-touch screen and IOS 4.2 . The chassis comes in at just 8.8mm thin! The front camera is VGA quailty while Apple says the rear camera is capebale of 720p video.
Pricing starts at $499 for the 16Gb WiFi only version and scales all the way up to $849 for a 64Gb WiFi + 3G version.
