U.K. supplier Maplin Electronics announced a Windows CE-based MID (mobile internet device) that costs just 70 Pounds (approximately $114). The device, known by its order code A10JQ, has a five-inch touchscreen with 480 x 272 resolution, 2GB of flash storage, 802.11b/g wireless, a 480MHz processor and 480 x 272 pixel resolution.
The A10JQ runs Windows CE 5.0 using a 480MHz Telechips CPU with a 480MHz DSP. (No further details of the CPU were provided, but Telechips is known to be an ARM licensee based in Seoul, Korea.) Featuring 128MB of RAM, the MID comes with 2GB of flash storage and a SD slot that accepts up to 32GB.
According to purchasers who have posted comments on Maplin’s website, the device boots into an Adobe Flash-based interface that is in Chinese, but may also be configured to provide the standard Windows CE 5.0 desktop. The A10JQ includes Core Video Player software, the SpreadCE spreadsheet, and the Foxit Reader for displaying PDF documents and reportedly gets 2-4 hours of battery life.
