My Taptu is a”social news aggregator” the being that straight RSS feeds can overload you with information and headlines you don’t really care about. Mitch Lazar, CEO of Taptu actually referred to it as a “filter failure”. My Taptu looks to provide more control over the news streams and displaying them in an at-a-glance view that lets users easily access the information. I like to think of it as a never ending magazine experience that is built around my interests.

You can add single streams from specific website or grab a feed that has been curated by curated by Taptu’s editorial team and offer content from a variety of sources. The customizable nature is really what I’m after, but if you just want general information, the news feed features subcategories such as finance, political, and health news in addition to feeds from ABC, CBS, USA Today etc.

If you want to keep up to date on your social networking Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn feeds can also be incorporated. My Taptu stacks your feeds on top of another in a vertically scrolling list. You set the order in which they appear and can scroll horizontally to see all the items in a particular stream. When you hit the end they list gets refreshed with older content creating a never ending stream of news. When engaging with the content, you can tap an item to read a short summary. If you would like to read the entire thing the article will launch into a built-in browser.

It is currently available in Apple’s AppStore for the iPhone as well as the Android MarketPlace. We are looking forward to seeing MyTaptu launch on the iPad to see what they do with the tablet experience.
