The HTC Flyer was announced last week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and we’ve seen it up for pre-order on Amazon for 669€ . There are going to be 2 models of the Flyer coming to market, a Wifi version and a 3G version. TabletBlog.de has found a Wifi only Flyer on Cyberport for 499 euros, that’s almost €200 less. This price is very acceptable and will put the pressure on the Samsung GalaxyTab as its now not too much more expensive, and clearly with superior hardware.

The HTC Flyer has a 1.5GHz single core processor, Android 2.4 Gingerbread with a HTC Sense UI customized for tablets, a 7″ 1024 x 600 capacitive display with pressure sensitive stylus, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, front 1.3MP / 5.0MP rear cameras, microSD card slot, a 4,000 mAh battery good for up to 4 hours at minimum (with video playback). Turns out the rumored Scribe tablet from HTC isn’t another tablet but the technology they’re using with this pen of theirs.

We’ll see how the Flyer performs, it might have upgraded hardware in comparison to the Galaxy Tab, but if you stack it up against the Xoom, Playbook or pretty much any tablet announced at CES they were mostly dual core, the Flyer is single core and only offering 4 hours of video playback. The screen is also 6 point multitouch but doesn’t support palm rejection technology for then the pen is in use. This means you can’t rest your hand on the screen when you’re writing. Its the little things, but when you have some many devices that are all offering equal hardware choices and they Flyer offers slightly less, its going to make a difference in user experience. We’ll see how the sales numbers look when we see it in the next few months.
